Can I decode or re-encode the stream with SmartMEDIA?

Unfortunately, the current version of SmartMEDIA system does not decode or re-encode streams.

To decode a signal from the satellite you normally need to apply specialized hardware solutions supporting the installation of CAM modules. In a CAM module, you can insert a card similar to those used in DVB-C/DVB-S servers.

For re-encoding you need to use devices called transcoders. Manufacturers specializing in producing software for content transcoding are Elemental, Elecard, Harmonic, Envivio and many others. Such software provides the best possible quality, supports numerous input interfaces, protocols and codecs but is quite expensive.

If you do not think it is justified to invest in industry-grade transcoders at the current stage, you can use simpler software. For example, the quality of Intel algorithms operation (Quick Sync Video - QSV) has significantly improved over the past few years. This software was used as the basis for building other products like Elecard CodecWorks 990 and some others. Besides, you can set up your transcoder yourself based on free ffmpeg software (it supports QSV and x264 from the popular codecs), and we will help you with that.
