Can I transmit a signal from the satellite directly to the SmartMEDIA system?
Yes, if you do not need to re-encode and / or transcode the signal before transmitting it from the satellite (which will most probably be required):
- If the signal from the satellite is encoded with CAS/DRM system not supported by your customer premises devices, the signal will need to be decoded and, if necessary, re-encoded with another system supported by all the devices you are using.
- Some customer premises devices may not support even a non-encoded signal. If the signal from the satellite is encoded in such a way that your devices cannot play this content, you will most probably have to re-encode it using the codecs and profiles supported by all the devices you are using.
- If the signal is transmitted in the OTT network, it is recommended to prepare the content in several options with different bit rates to employ the Adaptive Streaming technology. For this, you will also need to re-encode the content using the codecs and profiles supported by all the devices you are using.
